Ma Nouveau Roommate

Posted by officerincivvies on January 16, 2009

So, I got a new roommate this semester as my old one moved out. I am always hesitant to get a new roommate in case they are mean, or crazy, or messy or just someone that I don’t get along with.

However, I think I got the best roommate ever. She’s from Quebec and is basically the opposite of my douche roommate. I am definitely glad that she was put into our townhouse.

What a Shitty Situation

Posted by officerincivvies on January 11, 2009

As many of you probably know by now, I hate my one roommate, for many reasons. I now have a new one.

Now before I go into the problem I needed to do some background research and using myself as a control group and did some quantitative work. In the end I came up with the result that the average male’s number of days used to toilet paper ratio is about 14:1 to 21:1. This means that the average male uses an entire roll of TP to himself in 2 to 3 weeks.

Now the reason I needed to know this because I noticed my roommate uses a lot of effin’ TP. Now that I had some data I could compare to. To figure out how much toilet paper he was using I did not use any TP in our bathroom for a long time and I could record when I noticed there was a new roll.

My roommate’s ratio: 2.5 to 1

That’s right. He manages to use an entire roll of toilet paper in 2.5 days. That is more TP than a girl uses.

I have no idea how he uses so much but I have three hypothesis:

  1. He uses TP to dry anything that is wet in the bathroom (hands, body after shower etc).
  2. He likes to dress up as a mummy.
  3. He puts one end into the toilet and flushes to see how much goes down.

Now all are equally likely. With (1), I know he doesn’t have any towels because I have never seen him use one. (3) is unlikely because there is too much friction, so unless he is so daft that he keeps trying it over and over.

Other than that I have no idea why he uses so much. I need to figure this out because he expects me to buy half the TP but he clearly uses more than that.

So until I figure this out, it is going to bug me for a while.

Decent Break

Posted by officerincivvies on December 30, 2008

Last week and a bit have been pretty decent for me. Starting on the 19th my roommate had a huge party-ish at our townhouse. A couple of my friends came and a couple pussied out. We drank a bit of everything in the beginning of the night, some beers, jagerbombs, tequilla etc. Jesse then wanted to go to a warehouse party that his sister was throwing on, so we went there. Turns out it really sucked. Maybe not for him because he knew everyone but for Shaw and I we were bored.

We quickly left and headed back to my townhouse. We tried running after a bus but some dick bus driver wouldn’t stop for us. So we had to wait for a bit for a bus to finally come. By the time we had gotten back to Rez my roommate was passed out. The rest of us ended up playing drunk twister till 4 am. By that time most of the people had passed out. I went to my room and found two girls passed out in my bed.

The next day I was supposed to head out to my grandparents but there was so much snow that I got stuck in my townhouse. I waited for a day for the snow to pass and get plowed before I headed out to Chilliwack. There I just chilled with my grandparents for a few days. It continued to snow really hard out there.

Christmas day I didn’t do much since my family was up in Quesnel. From my grandparents I got some money and some axe stuff. Christmas dinner I went to Cloverdale to my Aunt and Uncles. I got a Futureshop giftcard from them. I ended up spending the night playing PS3 with my cousin on some game called Warhawks I believe.

I headed home to rez only to see that Futureshop was opening at six am the next morning and I wanted an xbox 360. I called up Tom and then headed to his place. We drove around and saw people were lined up all over. We continued to drive around and the only thing we found open was a 7-11. Tres depressing. We ended up going back to his place where I slept till 5:40 and he just played Wow.

When we got to Futureshop, the store was just packed! I have never seen so many people inside Futureshop and at 6 AM! The parking lot was also full and we had to park a bit aways. But I ended up getting my 360, plus an extra controlled, plug n’ play packs, Guitar Hero III with a guitar and a bunch of games. Tom and I went back to my place and ended up playing that for the last few days. We mostly played Mirror’s Edge which is a really good game. It’s a first person action game about these messengers who use Parkour to get messages across the city since they live in a Totalitarian society where communications is controlled.

Tom introduced me to the following video which I thought was hilarious:

On the 27th we went out to Kits where we ate at a really good breakfast restaurant called the Wooden Shoe. I haven’t eaten their since September. The Vancouver roads are really horrible. The new Happy Planet mayor of Vancouver won’t last long since his snow removal plan seems to be, “Let it melt.” Srsly if you go off any major road in Vancouver you will need four wheel drive. Even major streets like Oak had to be shut down because of how bad they were.

I bet he will soon implement the “Walk it Off” health care plan.

That evening I went out to watch the movie the Day the Earth Stood Still. If you don’t know or remember, that was the movie that was filmed at SFU and that I snuck on the set as an extra and filmed two scenes. Well I watched the movie and I saw the two scenes that I filmed in and I made it in the movie!! I am so excited. Now I am going to wait for a DVD copy of the movie or a DVD quality download so I can screen shot that shit and prove I was in it.

The 28th I went out to Chilliwack once again as this was my true Christmas. My parents were in town and my brothers who I haven’t seen since August, for a brief moment. We exchanged presents and I was excited as I got a bunch of stuff I really wanted and needed. My mother gave me spoons (as I only owned one), some pots and tea towels. I also got a calendar, candy and the second newest Redwall Book, Eulalia from my younger brother. My younger-older brother gave me a $100 gift card to Futureshop. I was pretty impressed that he did that, apparently he wanted to buy me a whole xbox because of all the stuff I have gotten him in the past (a Wii, games etc). My Aunt and cousins gave me a chapters gift card and I also received a roomlamp, some new jeans and a belt.

I headed back to rez today, where I was playing xbox all day. I downloaded some new A State of Trances that I have not listened to, including the yearmix and the top 20. It was Shawn’s birthday today (Happy Birthday man!) and we went out to Red Robins and the Foggy Dew. It was definitely a decent night.

As the year is coming to an end there has been a lot of good stuff that has happened this year, specially near the end of it. I will write a full year recap next year as I still have a few days left. In the next few days I will be going snowboarding with my brother, out shopping for a suit jacket, dinner with the third set of aunt and uncle and a NYE party on the 31st. Next year I have some big plans, including living in my own place off rez which I am starting to looking for now. Either that or I need a roommate which I am also looking for.

So, my final words of this post and possibly this year: A pimp is just a business manager with assets.

I Hate Rez

Posted by officerincivvies on December 9, 2008

I am really not impressed with SFU Residence right now and I am very much considering moving out. I have been able to stand some of the stupid decisions they have made but now they have gone too far and I am so effin pissed.

Every year they have a Residence Orientation. In there new students meet in clans where they get shown around Vancouver. In charge of these clans is a Resident Orientation Leader. I was one of those for the last two years and it was fun. In charge of them is a Team Leader.

Last year I wanted to be one. I applied, got interviewed and wasn’t chosen. I thought, “ok that’s fine, I am young, they picked older people. I will just get some more leadership experience and I should get chosen next year.”

So that’s what I did. This year I applied, sure I was going to get the job. I got the interview and pretty much nailed it, so so I thought. I got a phone call a while ago from the guy in charge of this years orientation telling me that I did not get it. I am so pissed. He then told me that he wants to see me out as an ROL. Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

I’ve wanted to be one since first year and this was my last opportunity to do it. I have never been so mad at rez before. And it is not like I don’t deserve it, nor was I not qualified for the position.

I want a real reason why I was not chosen this year but if I end up seeing either of the two in charge I am going to swear at them. This is fucking ridiculous and I fucking furious.

How to get into the SFU Pub

Posted by officerincivvies on November 25, 2008

Of the few times that the SFU Pub is really busy and happening, then there is usually a long line up outside or there is a cover. You can easily avoid these by taking the back path onto tho the pub balcony.

On the path above the front door to the Highland there is roof, to the left, there is a sign that says, “DO NOT CLIMB ON ROOF!”

This is where you climb on the roof. Stay to the left and follow the steps down the back of the SFU Theatre. You will come to a small gap onto the emergency stairwell, do not go there. If you get to the top there will be a gate onto the pub which if you open will set off the alarm.

Instead turn to your right and follow the ladder up. This will take you beside the patio. If you are not fat then you can walk between the fence and the wall. If you are fat, then you can jump the fence.

Either way, you will now be on the patio and then you can walk into the pub sans problem.

Stressed

Posted by officerincivvies on October 22, 2008

So I think for the first time in my few years here at SFU I have become stressed from school. Why am I stressed? Because I have two midterms and two papers due in the same week where I have no time to study for them because I am either in class or I have to row because of a big regatta this weekend.

What is better is somehow I am the one in charge of getting this regatta together for our team since we do not have an official head coach. So I managed to get us entered into the race after spending a week looking for our Rowing Canada Aviron numbers. Of course our entries were late so the people at UVic putting on the regatta were not impressed. I had to get us hotel rooms, this was not too bad and now I have to fill out a travel itinerary, for SFU Athletics, which is already late. The worst part is I have to find us two boats to use at the regatta since we do not want to use the Inlet Rowing Club’s boats since we are having some problems with them.

Tomorrow I have my macm midterm, it could go well, it could not. What scares me is that we aren’t even allowed to bring in a calculator, and this could mean hard math we have to do in our heads, or even worse, math questions without numbers (ie proofs :S).

When I get home from my midterm I have to pull an all-nighter tomorrow night too in order to study for my CMPT 371 midterm. I will have missed two rowing practises which is not great but allows me to heal up before the race. I will still have to make up those practises on Thursday afternoon and Friday at 5:30.

Food is also getting low in the house. My mother came down on Sunday for the day and I am glad she brought me down a gift card to a grocery store. On friday I will have to go pick up groceries. Which reminds me of how much I dislike my roommate. He left a 2L bottle of wine sitting awkwardly on the kitchen door so when I opened the door, the bottle fell open and smashed. I had glass everywhere and wine going under the fridge. I was not impressed.

My CMPT-320 paper is due tomorrow. It is good I think. I will need to re-read it one more time to make sure I have everything straight. I am not impressed with at the last minute the professor is sending us shit on the essay. I also have to send the paper into Turn It In which is a site I am not a fan of. Not only does it violate my right of innocents, they also steal your paper and make money off of it. I tried to protest using the website but the professor wouldn’t give me an alternative option.

And what is it, with a week before a term paper is due, that someone is emailing the professor asking the class for notes from the first week. Definitely I was not impressed with them and I didn’t want to help them because of their piss poor planning.

My CRIM-355 (Forensics) class has a midterm paper this week too, though I think it will be easy. We watched a CSI episode and we have to critique the methods they used to deal with the crime scene. The crime was not perplexing nor had any plot twists so I should be all right. I think I will try and quote Pete Townshed in my paper and probably open it up with this: “Who are you?” (Townshed, 1978) a question commonly asked in the hit CBS show: Crime Scene Investigation (C.S.I.).

In my Artificial Intelligence class, thanks to Cory’s 1337 programming, our backgammon agent came in the top five of the class, beating out of 34 other groups.

In the spring I think I might try and have classes only on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to maximize my Whistler-ness. As a result I will probably end up taking CMPT 307, ENGL 104 – Intro to Prose, CRIM 300 – Criminology Theories, CRIM 356 – Forensics II, and CRIM 317 – Prostitution in Canada.

I found another class I want to add to my wish lists of classes, EASC 310 – Paleontology. Though it is not as interesting as EASC 103 – The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs. It is a writing intense class and you must do some research proposals and there is not that much to do on dinosaurs.

My project, which I am calling Blackwood, has sucessfully started, I have started the planning stages and have some great ideas. I found another site which I am going to steal borrow ideas from, it’s called Travian and basically you build a town from nothing. You get resources, expand, and then use your economical or military powers to take over other villages.

So now I am done ranting for a bit, so I am going to go and try and wake up, down a can of redbull, take a shower, and finish studying MACM-316 for the night, so I can wake up at a decent time, finish my paper and not fail any classes.

Parking @ SFU

Posted by officerincivvies on October 3, 2008

One of the many good things about living in rez is that I have a parking spot on campus and it is a reserved spot just for me. What the downside to this is, if someone decides to park in your spot when you are gone, then you are shit out of luck. Last year when this happened you would have to go to the Residence and Housing Office who was never opened. So usually I would park within a few cm from their driver’s door so it would be a pain in the ass to get into their car. As well pulling out would be a bitch for them.

Now my ultimate goal was to completely block their car in so they could not pull out. Now this was never possible to do because I would end up blocking other cars from moving through the parking lot, and ultimately ending up with myself getting towed.

But now they changed their SOPs so today I finally got revenge. Some douche parked in my spot last night. This morning he was still there so I phoned up security and told them to tow him. They told me to park in the MBC parking garage. On the way back to rez they were putting the boot on him, had given him a ticket and the tow truck was on it’s way.

Ah… revenge is a dish, best served cold.

Sarah Palin Is an Idiot

Posted by officerincivvies on September 20, 2008

For those of you who know who Sarah Palin is, you are probably thinking: “not another anti-Palin blog post!” While those of you who do not know who she is, the basic story is that she was a Mayor of a town, of 1000 people, then she became Governor in Alaska for the last two years. Now she has been chosen as John McCain’s Vice President choice. Her ideologies are very similar to that of George W. Bush and of John McCain.

Now before you all start to think this is a post about American politics I must say I care about American politics as much as I care about the politics of Venezula, Somalia, the Virgin Islands or Antartica. Basically, not at all.

Now in the last few days Ms. Palin’s Yahoo eMail, gov.palin@yahoo.com, was “hacked”, or so the media claims. That is right! The media claims that some hackers from 4chan’s /b/ broke through the Recover Password feature. The media now claims that free emails like gMail, Yahoo and Hotmail need to step up their security.

Now before you start panicking and thinking that your email is not safe, do not worry. The only reason her account was “hacked” into was because she is an idiot. And I use the word “hack” loosely, as it wasn’t even social engineering. The reason her account was broken into was because her security questions were ridiculously easy to answer and all the answers were found with a simple google search.

So here we have Sarah Palin, the next possible Vice President of the United States, who may possibly have to stand up to Putin, is failing to have some basic common sense on the internet. Once again people are forgetting that anything you put on the internet, is there for good, and can easily be found. She probably had all this information on Facebook and is now wondering how anyone could have possibly found it all out.

Clearly someone idiotic as this does not deserve to be the VP of anything.

Matt Damon say’s it best:

Moved In

Posted by officerincivvies on August 23, 2008

Yesterday I moved into my townhouse on rez. I managed to get the room with the balcony which is cool but it is the smallest room with the smallest bathroom. I met one of my roommates, I don’t have an opinion on him yet so we will see.

We also started Orientation Leader training, a bunch of fucking the dog if you ask me.

Oh well, a week and some till school starts.

Pre Vimy

Posted by officerincivvies on August 3, 2008

So last week we were in the field to practise for Vimy which is next week.  The week is called Pre-Vimy and basically we spend the week sleeping on the dirt, receiving orders, writing orders and then executing them.  Next week in vimy we do this all week, in four hour blocks and we do not stop doing missions till everyone has passed.  This means next week we will not get any sleep for a week.

The only good thing about next week is that we get to spend our time in a mod tent and we have cots.

During the week in the field we eat IMPs, basically food that was made five years ago and sealed so well that you can still eat it now.  They give a whole loaf of bread in each meal that has been compressed to the size of a deck of cards, so you do not have to go to the bathroom as often.

We also had some classes on section attacks, on roadblocks and setting up OPs.  We played with pyrotechnics and the most exciting thing was that we got to do rappelling down a 35 foot wall and zipline across a river as well as run through the bayonette course.

One more week of course then grad week and I am done.  I will be of to NYC and then back to SFU.

Although I noticed on my go.sfu account that I am paying to live in Tower D but I got accepted into townhouses so I have to figure that out ASAP.
