Cake

Posted by officerincivvies on June 17, 2008

Today FF3 was finally released and Mozilla is trying to break the world record of most software downloaded in twenty-four hours. So head on over to www.getfirefox.com and download yourself a copy.

The IE7 team sent the Mozilla team a cake for releasing their newest version of the browser. I have yet to figure out if this is a goodwill sign or if Microsoft is laughing at them. This is not the first time IE has done it either, when FF2 came out the IE team did the same thing.

Now I am off to continue enjoying my FF3 experience while I work finish up the IRC before I start prepping for my summer trips.

School’s Out for the Summer

Posted by officerincivvies on June 17, 2008

As of yesterday I have officially finished school for the summer as I had my final in CMPT 363.

Overall the class material is a bit on the dry side. The class is similar to CMPT 275 but with less work, the work that is given is easier and there are no meetings. I found that the midterm was harder than the final as it took me 50 minutes to write the final. The last question on the final was actually, “Make a car interface that has these functions…” If you want to take an easier class, this would the one to do.

Our fifth member to our group turned out to not be a Charles at all and actually did a very good job.

Our professor, Stella Atkins, is a bit of an enigma. Like I stated a month ago, she is this older British lady teaching a computing science course. She teaches Human-Computer Interactions but she is not the greatest at using her own computer, or technology for that matter. She also hates the command line / linux.

We had a presentation in the last lecture to give to the class on our product that would never be able to work. The class then gave us comments and a grade. Some of them were so ridiculous I could not believe it.

interface is a little simple

No shit, it is supposed to be simple.

the slides were not colourful and fun

We did not have any slides, nor did we have to.

did not introduce all group members. Did not show too much about the product. A bit too fast.

Yes we did, that was the first thing that we did. It is also not our fault that we are fluent in the English language and can speak at a natural rate.

the credit card payment is not secure as I can swipe others’ credit cards and pay

… just like every other device in the world you can swipe a credit card through…

paying by yourself doesn’t make sense. Shops won’t allow you to use that device.

… yes it does and do you think stores would give us their entire stock and map layout of every store?

no icons, no pictures

… so?

But now that CMPT 363 is over I can spend the next week and a bit packing for Basic and packing up my room to my grandparents house, finishing up a rowing website, train and plan my NY trip.

In the fall I believe I will be taking CMPT 310, 320, 354, MACM 316 and CRIM 300.

edit: I changed my mind, I will be taking 371 and not 354.
